In the relatively new landscape of marketing your product on the Internet, SEO is king. But if you’re just beginning to use the Internet for your product campaign, then you would have to orient yourself in the basics of SEO. You may also be asking a question at this point—what the heck is SEO?

SEO for the Uninformed

When you say SEO, you are using an acronym. It stands for Search Engine Optimization and it’s the process of making yourself as visible as possible on the Internet. When someone wants to see your product, they use a keyword or something related to your search engine-optimized website to get there.

When you say optimization, basically, it’s how you create a website that would be easily searchable by people who want to buy from you. This topic, however, is for another time.

Now that you basically know what SEO or Search Engine Optimization is, you should arm yourself with the basic requirements for beginner SEO marketers. What are these, you may ask?

They say the in the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king, and that should be you. You should brush up with what you should know if you want to use SEO on your webpage. You should know what keywords are, what the importance of these are to a content, and why you should make your website search engine-friendly and what that even means.

Here are a few basics if you want to create a successful SEO campaign the first time:

  • Bridging your Content. Linking your content to the Internet properly—so that it passes Google’s strict standards—will go a long way to helping your website climb to the top of the rankings. This means you link your content properly with other content from your website that you display in search engines.
  • Making a Beachhead. When the Allies landed on Normandy, they established a beach head for their attack. That’s how you should see it when you use keywords. Think of them as a beach head for your content. When you use clear, straightforward keywords, they are even stronger than a jumble of mixed keywords that make little to no sense.
  • Content is King. You’re going to hear that from your marketers a lot of times. When they say content is king, they mean that your content needs to be strong—not a word out of place, not even if it’s the keyword with a weird composition. This is where the proper grouping of keywords, as well as making an article that’s clearly an article and not just some random copy, comes to mind.
  • Media Visibility. After a kick-ass copy, strong keyword, and a good link to the Internet are made, you’re going to have to follow-up on your campaign. This is where your social media team comes in. Everyone is on social media, so this is as good a place as any to start connecting to the people you really want to get cozy with—your audience.

These are just the basics, and there are a whole lot of things happening behind the scenes. What you should remember, though, is that SEO is just basically selling your product through a clear message to the people who are looking for it.
