In the recent trends though growth have been observed in the private sectors with the coming of the Multinational companies in the scene yet the security and reliability provided by the Government jobs keeps drawing people towards itself.

In this regard one of the most poignant jobs remains the Bank Personnel sector jobs.

Before diving further into the depth of the banking sector we ought to know what actually is IBPS.

IBPS acronym for Institute of Banking Personnel Selection is basically an autonomous body which has been set up with the insight to recruit candidates for various client organizations, conduct relevant supportive research and publicize the findings. It has been playing an integral role in rendering assistance to the financial sector in the fields of employees’ selection, promotion and placement.

IBPS is a common entrance selection test which has been employed by various banks to hire candidates for various sectors as Clerical, Probationary Officer (PO), Specialist Officer (SO), and Management Trainee (MT) roles from all over the country.

This examination is conducted at various cities at the same time.

As per recent statics there has been a phenomenal growth in the number of candidates appearing for IBPS exams. In 2011, 79,000 candidates were selected by IBPS for key positions out of 10 Million who gave IBPS exams. It is proposed that over the next 5 years, banks will need to recruit approx. 7.5 lakh candidates to fill open positions. This represents a tremendous opportunity for prospective candidates to join one of the many nationalized banks as POs or as Clerks.

As per any regulations of examination the candidates need to satisfy these criteria for appearing in the IBPS examination.

The candidates  needs to belong to certain age group and possess required educational qualification & citizenship criteria to be eligible for the IBPS Clerk exam.



The recent eligibility criteria as per 2016 can be outlined as:

  1. Graduation in any discipline.
  2. The candidate must be a citizen of India.
  3. The candidate must be minimum 20 years old.

Important note that must be kept in mind is that candidates must fill the form with utter carefulness as no change of category will be entertained post submission of the IBPS Online Application.

Also the candidate needs to carry the requisite documents to prove the IBPS Clerk Eligibility.

With the eligibility criteria successfully covered we need to move to check the paper pattern   as well as the levels of difficulty for various sections.

With 2016 paper pattern in mind this could be provided as the outline for the IBPS examination.

The IBPS Clerk examination 2016 consisted of 5 sections

  • General English,
  • Quantitative Aptitude
  • Logical Reasoning,
  • General Awareness (banking based) &
  • Computer Awareness.

Negative marking was marked for incorrect answers in both prelims and mains for IBPS Clerk exam. Candidates lose ¼ marks for incorrect answer.

Candidates are awarded 1 mark for every correct answer.

No mark is awarded in case of a non-attempted question.

Before moving to next question candidates had to save the answer

IBPS clerk recruitment 2016 had been a two stage entrance test for recruitment as a Clerk namely Prelims and Mains with objective type questions in English and Hindi for each stage.

The process for IBPS clerk recruitment can be summarised in these two stages

·         Preliminary Examination

It is the foremost stage of the IBPS Clerk Recruitment & comprises of three sections

  • English
  • Quantitative Aptitude &
  • Logical Reasoning

The total marks allotted for these sections combined are 100 marks.

Prelims basically act as an elimination process and as per the performance of the candidate in the exam he/she is shortlisted to go for further examination i.e. the mains paper.

  • Mains examination

In accordance to the pattern followed in 2016 the Mains exam consisted of 200 marks examination comprising of 5 sections

  • English
  • Quantitative Aptitude
  • Logical Reasoning
  • General Awareness &
  • Computer Knowledge.

As per the performance of candidate and the marks obtained during this stage decide the selection of the candidate as a clerk in the desired bank

Finally after the online examinations the candidate needs to go through provisional allotment process .

IBPS Clerk Provisional Allotment Process

The provisional allotment process is done post conduction of the interview. While appearing for provisional allotment process these points must be taken under consideration.

  • Although Mains exams are conducted out of 200 the scores of Mains are calculated out of 100 instead of 200 marks for the provisional allotment.
  • The candidates are chosen to fill the vacancies offered by the Participating Organizations after the completion of the Main Examination.
  • Candidates shortlisted will be provisionally allotted to one of the Participating Organizations, based on merit-cum preference keeping in view the spirit of Govt.
  • A candidate belonging to SC/ST/OBC who is selected on standards similar to General Category candidates will be selected on their own merit basis.
  • As the provisional allotment will be made to participating organizations on merit cum preference basis, once the provisional allotment is made, no request for change shall be entertained.
